UPDATE: To reflect Traffic Fatality count for 2020.
On July 19, 2020, at about 2:00 A.M., a fatal motor vehicle collision occurred on Kamehameha Highway before the Heeia State Park in the Kaneohe area.
On July 19, 2020, at about 2:00 A.M., a male who has yet to be identified was traveling northbound on Kamehameha Highway at a high rate of speed when his vehicle lost control and traveled across the southbound lane and onto the southbound shoulder where the vehicle went up a grass embankment and was overturned upon colliding with a utility pole guy-wire.
HFD extricated the male from the vehicle, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
At this time, speed appears to be a contributing factor. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were contributing factors to this collision.
This is the 29th Traffic Fatality of this year compared to 33 at the same time in 2019.
The investigation is ongoing.
