UPDATE: To reflect Traffic Fatality count for 2020.
On July 6, 2020, just before 3:00 A.M., a fatal motor vehicle collision occurred on the Pali Highway one (1) mile before Kamehameha Highway (Castle Junction) in the Kailua area.
On July 6, 2020, just before 3:00 A.M., an outstanding stolen vehicle was traveling Kailua bound on Pali Highway at a high rate of speed when the vehicle lost control and collided with the center median. The vehicle subsequently rolled over, ejecting the four occupants before coming to final rest. Of the four occupants, one was pronounced dead at the scene, and the second was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
The other two occupants were placed under arrest for Unauthorized Entry into a Motor Vehicle in the Second Degree.
At this time, speed appears to be a contributing factor. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were contributing factors.
This is the 26th Traffic Fatality of this year compared to 30 at the same time in 2019.
The investigation is ongoing.
