On October 21, 2023 at about 8:08 PM, a fatal motor vehicle collision occurred in the Kahuku area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 76-year-old male motorist was traveling eastbound on Kamehameha Highway. The 76-year-old male motorist for unknown reasons slowed down and traveled off of the roadway and collided into the bushes on the right shoulder of the roadway.
As a result of the collision, the 76-year-old motorist was unresponsive and was transported to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The 76-year-old male motorist was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
At this time, speed does not appear to be a factor in this collision, it is unknown if drugs or alcohol were contributing factors.
This is the 43rd Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 38 at the same time in 2022.
The investigation is ongoing.
