On Sunday, February 28, 2021, at about 7:57 p.m., a Motor Vehicle Collision occurred in the Ewa Beach area involving a Moped.

A Jonway Moped operated by a 40 year old male from Ewa Beach, was traveling northbound on Hanakahi Street , when it tried to avoid a collision with a Tacoma truck that turned in front of him onto Hanaloa Street.

The operator of the moped laid his moped down and struck the pavement. He was not wearing a helmet. The moped operator was taken to an area hospital in Critical condition where he died.

The operator of the truck was not injured and remained at the scene.

Speed, drugs, or Alcohol does not appear to be contributing factors.

This is the 8th traffic fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 8 at this same time last year.

This investigation is on-going.
