On December 8, 2025, at about 8:07 A.M., a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian occurred on Nimitz Highway in the Kalihi area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 24-year-old female motorist and her 54-year-old female passenger were traveling eastbound in the zipper lane on the H1 Freeway and merged onto Nimitz Highway, where she struck a 32-year-old male pedestrian who was crossing Nimitz Highway and was not in a marked crosswalk.
As a result of the collision, the 32-year-old male pedestrian was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The 24-year-old female motorist and her 54-year-old female passenger remained at the scene and were not injured as a result of the collision.
At this time, neither speed, drugs, nor alcohol appears to be a contributing factor in this collision.
This is the 78th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year compared to 47 at the same time in 2024.
The investigation is ongoing.
