On October 28, 2025, at about 4:50 AM, a fatal motor vehicle collision involving pedestrians occurred in the Nanakuli area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 22-year-old female motorist was traveling eastbound on Farrington Highway in lane #1, when she attempted to merge into lane #2, and collided with a 37-year-old male motorist that merged into lane #2 from lane #3.
As a result of the initial collision, the 37-year-old male motorist lost control near the intersection of Pua Avenue and struck a 19-year-old female pedestrian and a 42-year-old female pedestrian, who were walking in a marked crosswalk.
As a result of the collision, the 37-year-old male motorist and the 42-year-old female pedestrian were taken via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in serious condition.
The 19-year-old female pedestrian was taken via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition, where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
The 22-year-old female motorist remained at the scene and was not injured as a result of the collision.
At this time, speed appears to be a contributing factor of this collision. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol are contributing factors.
This is the 71st Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 38 at the same time in 2024.
The investigation is ongoing.
