On October 27, 2025, at about 3:58 AM, a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a single vehicle occurred in the airport area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department Traffic Division, Vehicle Homicide Section, that a 42-year-old motorist was traveling westbound, at a high rate of speed, on Nimitz Highway and collided into a concrete support pillar near the intersection of Valkenburgh Street.
As a result of the collision, the 42-year-old motorist succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 42-year-old motorist was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
At this time, speed appears to be a contributing factor of this collision. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol are contributing factors.
This is the 70th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 38 at the same time in 2024.
The investigation is ongoing.
