On February 12, 2022, at about 10:00 PM, a fatal motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles occurred on Kamehameha Highway in the Kahuku area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section that a 26-year-old male motorist was traveling northbound on Kamehameha Highway when he broadsided a 41-year-old female motorist who turned from a side street onto Kamehameha Highway in the southbound direction. The 41-year-old female motorist lost control, veered off of the roadway, and collided into a utility pole.
As a result of the collision, the 26-year-old male motorist succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at an area hospital.
The 26-year-old male motorist was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
At this time, speed appears to be a contributing factor. It is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were contributing factors.
This is the 7th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 5 at this same time in 2021.
The investigation is ongoing.
