On September 24, 2025, at about 6:08 AM, a fatal motor vehicle collision involving multiple vehicles that occurred on Joseph P. Leong Highway south of Emerson Road in the Haleiwa area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 58-year-old male motorist was traveling northbound on Joseph P. Leong Highway when it crossed into the southbound lane and sideswiped a juvenile female motorist and her juvenile female passenger.
The 58-year-old male motorist continued forward and collided head-on with a 21-year-old male motorist traveling southbound before sideswiping a 24-year-old male motorist also traveling southbound.
As a result of the collision, the 21-year-old motorist was ejected onto the roadway. The 21-year-old male motorist was pronounced dead at the scene.
The juvenile female motorist sustained minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene. The juvenile female passenger was not injured as a result of the collision.
The 58-year-old motorist remained at the scene and was not injured as a result of the collision.
At this time, speed, alcohol, or drugs do not appear to be a contributing factor in the collision.
This is the 65th traffic fatality on Oahu compared to 32 at the same in 2024.
The investigation is ongoing.
