On 1-25-21, at about 3:50 pm, a motor vehicle collision occurred on the Moanalua Freeway in the Kalihi area.
A 2016 Honda sedan was being operated by an 80 year old female, with a 70 year old female passenger. For unknown reasons, the vehicle swerved and collided into a guardrail, that separated the Moanalua Freeway and the Middle Street off ramp.
The 70 year old female passenger was taken to an area hospital and was listed as being in good/fair condition.
The 80 year old female operator was not injured.
On 2-1-21, at about 1:08 hours, the Traffic Division was notified that the 70 year old female passenger’s condition worsened and she succumbed to her injuries.
At this time, speed, alcohol or drugs do not appear to be factors in this collision.
The roads were wet from prior rain.
This is the 6th Traffic Fatality for the this year, compared to 6 from 2020.
