On February 10, 2022, at about 10:30 PM, a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a motorcyclist occurred on Likelike Highway (Kaneohe bound) just outside of the Wilson Tunnels in the Kaneohe area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section that a 25-year-old male motorcyclist and his passenger, a female who has yet to be identified, were traveling Kaneohe bound on Likelike Highway at a high rate of speed.
As they exited out of the Wilson Tunnels, the 25-year-old male motorcyclist lost control, traveled onto the shoulder, and collided with a concrete barrier, at which time they were both ejected.
As a result of the collision, the 25-year-old male motorcyclist was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
The female passenger who has yet to be identified succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Both the 25-year-old male motorcyclist and his female passenger were wearing helmets at the time of the collision.
At this time, speed appears to be a contributing factor. It is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were contributing factors.
This is the 6th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 5 at this same time in 2021.
The investigation is ongoing.
