On August 30, 2025, at about 2:35 AM, a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle occurred on Nimitz Highway in the Kalihi area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 49-year-old male motorcyclist was traveling westbound on Nimitz Highway at a high rate of speed when he lost control and collided with the concrete curb, ejecting the 49-year-old male motorcyclist onto the roadway.
As a result of the collision, the 49-year-old male motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
At this time, speed appears to be a factor in this collision. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol are a contributing factor.
This is the 56th traffic fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 27 at the same time in 2024.
The investigation is ongoing.
