On August 21, 2025, at about 1:23 PM, a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian occurred in the McCully area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 67-year-old male motorist was traveling northbound on Kemole Lane when he disregarded a stop sign, initiated a left turn onto Young Street, and struck a 72-year-old female pedestrian, who was walking within the roadway eastbound on Young Street.
As a result of the collision, the 72-year-old female pedestrian succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 67-year-old male motorist remained at the scene and was not injured as a result of the collision.
At this time, speed, drugs, or alcohol do not appear to be a contributing factor of this collision.
This is the 55th traffic fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 26 at the same time in 2024.
The investigation is ongoing.
