On December 16, 2022, at about 8:50 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision, involving a motor vehicle and a pedestrian, occurred on North King Street in the Kalihi area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 76-year-old adult male motorist, traveling westbound on North King Street, collided with and unknown adult male pedestrian who crossed the roadway.
As a result of the collision, the unknown adult male pedestrian was transported, via Emergency Medical Services, to an area hospital in critical condition where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The adult male pedestrian was not within a marked crosswalk at the time of the collision.
The 76-year-old male motorist remained at the scene and did not sustain any injuries as a result of the collision.
At this time, it is unknown if alcohol or drugs are a factor on the part of the adult male pedestrian. Speed, alcohol, or drugs do not appear to be a factor on the part of the adult male motorist in this collision.
This is the 53rd Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 44 during the same time in 2021.
The investigation is ongoing.
