On August 14, 2025, at about 1:45 AM, a fatal Motor Vehicle Collision involving a single motorcycle occurred on the H-1 Freeway, westbound, near the Middle Street overpass in the Kalihi area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 22-year-old male motorcyclist was traveling westbound on the H-1 Freeway at a high rate of speed, when it lost control and collided into the guardrail, ejecting the 22-year-old motorcyclist onto the roadway.
As a result of the collision, the 22-year-old male motorcyclist was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The 22-year-old male motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
At this time, speed appears to be a factor in this collision. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol are contributing factors.
This is the 51st Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year compared to 26 at the same time in 2024.
The investigation is ongoing.
