On December 22, 2024, at about 08:56 AM, a fatal hit and run motor vehicle collision involving a pick-up truck and a motorcycle occurred in the Kunia area. 

It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that an unidentified motorist was traveling southbound on Kunia Road when it collided with a motorcyclist who has yet to be identified.

As a result of the initial collision the motorcyclist was redirected off of the roadway onto the shoulder of Kunia Road where it collided with a utility pole and combusted into flames.

The unidentified motorist continued traveling southbound on Kunia Road without stopping to render aid or provide information.

The motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

At this time, speed appears to be a contributing factor in the collision, while it remains unknown if drugs, or alcohol are factors in this collision.

This is the 50th Traffic Fatality of 2024 as compared to 54 at the same time in 2023.
