On January 27, 2026, at about 1:40 P.M., a fatal motor vehicle collision occurred in the Aiea area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 56-year-old female motorist was traveling eastbound on the H1 Freeway, when she rear-ended a 30-year-old male motorist and his 26-year-old male passenger, 29-year-old male passenger, 24-year-old female passenger, 27-year-old female passenger and a juvenile passenger.
As a result of the collision, the 27-year-old female passenger was ejected onto the roadway and later pronounced dead at the scene. The 30-year-old male motorist and his remaining passengers were taken via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in good and serious condition.
All occupants of the vehicle operated by the 30-year-old male motorist were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision, except for the 24-year-old female and the 27-year-old female passengers who were seat in the open bed area of the truck.
The 56-year-old female motorist was also taken via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in good condition.
At this time, neither speed, drugs, nor alcohol appear to be a contributing factor of this collision.
This is the 5th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 6 at the same time in 2025.
The investigation is ongoing.
