On February 5, 2022, at about 9:48 PM, a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a single vehicle occurred on Kamehameha Highway in the Punaluu area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section that a 29-year-old male motorist was traveling southeast bound on Kamehameha Highway. For unknown reasons, the 29-year-old male motorist lost control, veered off of the roadway, and collided into a tree.
As a result of the collision, the 29-year-old male motorist succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 29-year-old male motorist was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
At this time it is unknown if speed or drugs are factors. It appears that alcohol may be a contributing factor.
This is the 5th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 5 at this same time in 2021.
The investigation is ongoing.
