UPDATE: To reflect the Traffic Fatality count for 2022.
On November 25, 2022, at about 8:30 A.M., a fatal motor vehicle collision occurred on Ala Wai Boulevard near Liliuokalani Avenue in the Waikiki area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that an 85-year-old motorist and his passenger, an 87-year-old female, were traveling westbound on Ala Wai Boulevard when for unknown reasons, he veered to the right and collided with a tree.
As a result of the collision, the 85-year-old male motorist was taken to an area hospital in serious condition. His condition deteriorated; he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The 87-year-old female passenger was taken to an area hospital in good condition.
The 85-year-old male motorist was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
At this time, neither speed, alcohol, nor drugs appear to contribute to this collision.
This is the 49th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 38 at this same time in 2021.
This investigation is ongoing.
