On 11-27-2020 at about 1132 hours a serious motor vehicle collision occurred in the Kailua area. The collision involved 2 vehicles, a Toyota CRV with 1 driver and 2 passengers, and an Audi with 1 driver.
A 48 year old female from California was driving the Toyota and was traveling Eastbound an Mokapu Saddle Rd., she proceeded through a red signal where she collided with a 33 year old male from the Kailua area. The male was driving the Audi and is believed to have had the green light while he was making a left turn at the time of the collision.
As a result of the collision, the rear seat passenger of the Toyota was taken to the Castle Hospital in Critical Condition where she later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead. The female passenger was also from California and is 79 years old.
At this time, speed, alcohol, and drugs, do not appear to be contributing factors in the collision.
This is the 49th Traffic Fatality of 2020 compared to 46 at the same time last year in 2019.
The investigation is ongoing.
