On August 2, 2025, at about 2:26 AM, a fatal Motor Vehicle Collision involving a single vehicle occurred on Farrington Highway, west of Aliinui Drive in the Kapolei area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 19-year-old male motorist was traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed on Farrington Highway when he lost control, and collided into the center median causing the vehicle to rollover multiple times, ejecting both the 19-year old motorist and his 18-year-old passenger onto the roadway, before the vehicle collided into a light pole where it came to rest.
As a result of the collision, the 19-year-old motorist was pronounced dead at the scene, and the 18-year-old passenger was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in Critical Condition.
Neither the 19-year-old motorist nor the 18-year-old passenger was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
At this time, speed appears to be a factor in this collision. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol are contributing factors.
This is the 47th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year compared to 23 at the same time in 2024.
The investigation is ongoing.
