On Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at about 4:29 p.m., a Major Motor Vehicle Collision occurred in the Kailua area, involving a vehicle and motorcycle.
A Subaru station-wagon, operated by a 40 year old male, was traveling Honolulu bound on Kailua Road when it was struck by a Suzuki Motorcycle at the intersection with Hamakua Drive.
The operator of the vehicle and its 72 year old female passenger were not injured and remained at the scene.
The operator of the motorcycle driven by a 22 year old male, was taken to an area hospital in Serious condition. However, its 22 year old female passenger of the motorcycle sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Both motorcycle occupants were wearing helmets.
Speed, drugs, and alcohol does not appear to be contributing factors on part of the vehicle.
Speed appeared to be a factor on part of the motorcyclist. Alcohol and drugs does not appear to be factors.
This is the 46th traffic fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 52 at this same time last year.
This investigation is on-going.
