UPDATE: To reflect the Traffic Fatality count for 2022.
On Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at approximately 2:20 p.m., a major motor vehicle collision occurred in the Ewa area, involving a small passenger bus and a motorcycle.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section that a Honda motorcycle, operated by a 27 year old male, was traveling eastbound on Geiger Road at a high rate of speed. As the motorcycle neared the intersection with Kamakana Street, it drove into the opposite bound lane to overtake several vehicles. As the motorcycle entered the intersection, it collided with a small passenger bus that was initiating a left turn onto Kamakana Street from Geiger Road.
The 76 year old female operator of the bus and her 11 and 12 year old passengers, were not injured and remained at the scene.
Although the operator of the motorcycle was wearing a helmet, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Speed appeared to be a contributing factor in this collision. It was unknown if drugs or alcohol were factors.
This was the 44th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 37 at this same time last year.
This investigation is ongoing.
