On November 27, 2024, at about 6:00 PM, a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a moped occurred on Kapiolani Boulevard near Mahukona Street, in the Honolulu area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 34-year-old male moped operator was traveling eastbound on Kapiolani Boulevard, when he was broadsided by a 31-year-old female motorist that was traveling westbound on Kapiolani Boulevard and attempting to make a left turn onto Mahukona Street.
As a result of the collision, the 34-year-old male moped operator was ejected onto the roadway.
The 34-year-old male moped operator was taken to an area hospital in critical condition where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The 34-year-old male moped operator was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The 31-year-old female motorist remained at the scene and was not injured as a result of the collision.
At this time, speed, drugs and alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors.
This is the 43rd Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 51 at the same time in 2023.
The investigation is ongoing.
