On July 4, 2025, at about 10:57 A.M., a fatal motor vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Kahuapaani Street and Mananai Place in the Aiea area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 40-year-old male motorist was traveling northbound on Kahuapaani Street with his 34-year-old passenger when he disregarded a red traffic signal and attempted to make a left turn onto Mananai Place. During the turn, his vehicle was broadsided by a 22-year-old female motorist who was traveling southbound on Kahuapaani Street with her 25-year-old passenger.
As a result of the collision, the 40-year-old male motorist was transported to an area hospital in good condition.
The 34-year-old male passenger refused medical treatment at the scene.
The 22-year-old female motorist was transported to an area hospital in good condition.
The 25-year-old female passenger was transported to an area hospital in critical condition, where she later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
At this time, speed does not appear to be a contributing factor. It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
This is the 41st Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year as compared to 16 at the same time in 2024.
The investigation is ongoing.
