UPDATE: To reflect the Traffic Fatality count for 2022.
On November 5, 2022, at about 12:30 AM, a fatal motor vehicle collision, involving a motor vehicle and a pedestrian, occurred on Ala Moana Boulevard in the Honolulu area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 29-year-old adult male motorist, traveling westbound on Ala Moana Boulevard, collided into a 55-year-old adult male pedestrian who was crossing the roadway, outside of a marked crosswalk.
As a result of the collision, the 55-year-old male pedestrian succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
During the investigation of the motor vehicle collision (MVC), the 29-year-old male motorist exhibited signs if impairment and was subsequently placed under arrest for Negligent Homicide in the First Degree and Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence of an Intoxicant.
The 29-year-old male motorist was not injured as a result of the collision.
Alcohol appears to be a contributing factor in this collision. At this time, it is unknown if speed or drugs are factors.
This is the 41st Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 37 during the same time in 2021.
The investigation is ongoing.
