On January 12, 2026, the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, was notified by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office that the 75-year-old male pedestrian involved in this collision had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
This is the 4th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 4 at the same time in 2025.
On January 9, 2026, at about 6:45 AM, a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian occurred on North King Street in the Kalihi area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 56-year-old female motorist was traveling southbound on Gulick Avenue, executed a left turn onto North King Street, and struck a 75-year-old male pedestrian who was crossing North King Street, in a marked crosswalk.
As a result of the collision, the 75-year-old male pedestrian was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in good condition.
The 56-year-old female motorist remained at the scene and was not injured as a result of the collision.
At this time, speed does not appear to be a contributing factor of this collision. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol is a contributing factor.
The investigation is ongoing.
