On October 19, 2021, at about 8:45 PM, a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian occurred at the intersection of Farrington Highway and Makakilo Drive in the Kapolei area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section that a 53-year-old Kapolei male motorist was traveling northbound on Fort Barrette Road, which turns into Makakilo Drive. As the 53-year-old Kapolei male motorist went through the intersection, he collided with a 68-year-old Kapolei male pedestrian who was crossing Farrington Highway in a marked crosswalk against the “Do Not Walk Sign.”
As a result of the collision, the 68-year-old Kapolei male pedestrian was taken to an area hospital in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The 53-year-old Kapolei male motorist was not injured as a result of the collision.
At this time, neither speed, drugs, or alcohol appear to be contributing factors.
This is the 36th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 41 at this same time in 2020.
