On October 16, 2021, a serious motor vehicle collision occurred in the Kalihi area. A 26 year old male, operating a 2009 Nissan 370z, was headed east on Nimitz Highway near the Kahauiki Village, when for unknown reasons, he lost control of his vehicle and collided into an adult male (possibly in his 30’s) on the right shoulder. The adult male pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The vehicle operator was taken to a nearby hospital and was listed as being in good condition.
At this time, speed may have been a factor in this collision on the part of the vehicle’s operator. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were factors.
This is the 35th traffic fatality for the year 2021, compared to 39 at the same time as last year.
