On Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at about   8:55 p.m., a multiple-traffic fatality motor vehicle collision occurred in the area of Kamehameha Highway and Puhuli Street in the Punaluu area.

It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 28-year-old female motorist, along with her passengers — a 28-year-old female, a 19-year-old female, and another 19-year-old female were traveling southbound on Kamehameha Highway when their vehicle crossed into the northbound lane and collided head-on with a 17-year-old female motorist.

The 28-year-old female motorist’s vehicle overturned as a result of the collision, displacing all occupants.

The Honolulu Fire Department responded and extricated all individuals from within the vehicle.

The 28-year-old female motorist and one of her 19-year-old female passengers were pronounced dead at the scene.

The 28-year-old and 19-year-old female passengers were transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

The 17-year-old female motorist in the other vehicle sustained minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital in good condition.

None of the occupants in the 28-year-old female motorist’s vehicle were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.

At this time, speed appears to be a contributing factor. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were contributing factors of this collision.

This is the 35th and 36th Traffic Fatalities on Oahu this year as compared to 15 at the same time in 2024.

The investigation is ongoing.
