On October 2, 2026, at about 7:10 A.M., a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a bicycle occurred on Sand Island Access Road in the Kalihi area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 34-year-old male motorist and his 34-year-old male passenger were traveling eastbound on Sand Island Access Road near Keehi Marina Boat Harbor when he struck an unidentified male bicyclist who was traveling on Sand Island Access in the same direction.
As a result of the collision, the unidentified male bicyclist was ejected onto the roadway and was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene.
The unidentified male bicyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The 34-year-old male motorist and his 34-year-old male passenger were not injured as a result of the collision.
At this time, speed, drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a contributing factor of this collision.
This is the 31st Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 68 at the same time in 2025.
The investigation is ongoing.
