UPDATE: To reflect the Traffic Fatality count for 2022.
On August 7, 2022, at about 9:34 PM, a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a Mazda minivan and a Toyota pick up truck occurred in the Waianae area of Farrington Highway and Waianae Valley Road.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section that a 38 year old male motorist was travelling northbound on Waianae Valley Road and proceeded against the red light and into the intersection. A 66 year old male was travelling east bound, with the green light on Farrington Highway and struck the driver’s side of Unit 1.
The 66 year old driver of the Toyota pick up remained at the scene in Good condition.
The 38 year old driver of the Mazda minivan was treated by EMS on scene and was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and died.
The 4 passengers of the Mazda minivan were transported by EMS to an area hospital in good condition. At this time it is unknown if speed, alcohol or drugs are a factor for this collision.
This is the 30th traffic fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 28 at this same time in 2021.
The investigation is ongoing.
