On May 18, 2025 at about 9:25 P.M. a fatal motor vehicle collision occurred on North Nimitz Highway in the Airport area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 66-year-old male motorist was traveling eastbound on Nimitz Highway when it struck a 62-year-old male pedestrian who was attempting to cross multiple lanes of Nimitz Highway outside of a crosswalk.
As a result of the initial collision the 62-year-old male pedestrian was lying on the roadway when it was struck in a secondary collision by a 29-year-old male motorist.
The 62-year-old male pedestrian was transported to an area hospital in critical condition where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Both the 66-year-old male motorist, his 66-year-old female passenger, and the 29-year-old male motorist remained at the scene of the collision and were not injured as a result of the collision.
At this time, neither speed, drugs, nor alcohol appear to be contributing factors of this collision.
This is the 29th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year as compared to 12 at the same time in 2024.
The investigation is ongoing.
