On April 11, 2025, at about 10:00 PM, a serious motor vehicle collision involving a single moped occurred in the Salt Lake area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 68-year-old male moped operator was traveling westbound on Kaua Street when he lost control of the moped and collided with a concrete median.
The 68-year-old male moped operator was transported to an area hospital in serious condition.
The 68-year-old male moped operator was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
On May 1, 2025, the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section was notified by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office that the 68-year-old male moped operator involved in this collision had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
At this time, neither speed, drugs, nor alcohol appear to be contributing factors of this collision.
This is the 26th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year as compared to 10 at the same time in 2024.
The investigation is ongoing.
