On April 28, 2025, at about 7:20 PM, a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian occurred in the Kalihi area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 23-year-old male motorist was traveling northbound on Sand Island Access Road when a 61-year-old male pedestrian, who had been walking northbound along the side of the roadway, entered the traffic lane and was struck by the 23-year-old male motorist.
The 61-year-old male pedestrian was transported to an area hospital in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The 23-year-old male motorist remained at the scene and was not injured.
At this time, neither speed, drugs, nor alcohol appear to be contributing factors of this collision.
This is the 25th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year as compared to 10 at the same time in 2024.
The investigation is ongoing.
