On May 5, 2025, at about 11:30 PM, a fatal motor vehicle collision occurred on Waihona Street in the Pearl City area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 65-year-old male motorist was traveling northbound on Waihona Street when it crossed over the double solid yellow (centerline), and collided into a southbound 33-year-old motorist.
As a result of the initial collision, the 65-year-old male motorist was redirected into the northbound lane, where it subsequently left the roadway, traveled onto the sidewalk, and collided with a tree.
The 65-year-old male motorist was transported to an area hospital in critical condition where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The 33-year-old motorist operator was transported to an area hospital in good condition.
At this time speed does not appears to be a contributing factor. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were contributing factors of this collision.
The 65-year-old male motorist was not wearing a seatbelt.
This is the 27th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year as compared to 11 at the same time in 2024.
The investigation is ongoing.
