On July 17th, 2022, at about 09:30 AM, a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a motorcyclist occurred on the Moanalua Freeway near the Ala Napuanani Street underpass.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section that a 35-year-old Honolulu male motorcyclist was traveling eastbound on the Moanalua Freeway weaving in and out of traffic when he lost control and collided with the concrete median. As as result of the collision the 35-year-old male motorcyclist was ejected onto the roadway.
The 35-year-old male motorcyclist was taken to the an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The 35-year-old male motorcyclist was reported to be wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
At this time speed appears to be a contributing factor of the collision. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were contributing factors.
This is the 25th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 26 at this same time in 2021.
The investigation is ongoing.
