On June 19, 2022, at about 1:15 AM, a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian occurred in the area of Kalihi Street and Fernandez Street in the Kalihi area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section that a 25-year-old Honolulu male pedestrian was lying in the middle of the roadway and was struck by a 45-year old Honolulu male motorist traveling southbound on Kalihi Street.
As a result of the collision, the 25-year-old Honolulu male pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 25-year-old Honolulu male pedestrian was outside of a marked crosswalk at the time of the collision.
The 45-year-old Honolulu male motorist was not injured as a result of the collision and remained at the scene.
At this time neither speed, drugs, nor alcohol appear to be contributing factors.
This is the 24th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 24 at this same time in 2021.
The investigation is ongoing.
