On July 4, 2026, at about 5:58 PM, a motor vehicle collision involving a single vehicle occurred in the Nuuanu area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 28-year-old female motorist was traveling westbound on the H-1 Freeway when, for unknown reasons, she traveled left crossing all lanes of traffic, and collided into the concrete center median.
As a result of the collision, the 28-year-old female motorist was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 28-year-old female motorist was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
At this time, speed does not appear to be a contributing factor in this collision. It is unknown if drugs, or alcohol are contributing factors.
This is the 22nd traffic fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 41 at the same time in 2025.
The investigation is ongoing.
