***ORIGINAL***
On April 12, 2025, at about 4:30 A.M., a fatal motor vehicle collision occurred on Kamehameha Highway just prior to the Kipapa Gulch Bridge in the Mililani area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section that a 33-year-old male motorist and his juvenile passenger were traveling southbound on Kamehameha Highway at a high rate of speed, overtaking other southbound vehicles, when they lost control and traveled into the northbound lanes of Kamehameha Highway and collided with a fence.
As a result of the initial collision, the 33-year-old male motorist was redirected into the southbound lanes and collided with a guardrail, ejecting his passenger onto the roadway before coming to final rest.
The juvenile passenger was taken to an area hospital in critical condition, where they later succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced dead.
The 33-year-old male motorist was subsequently placed under arrest for Negligent Homicide in the Second Degree.
At this time, both speed and alcohol appear to be contributing factors of this collision. It is unknown if drugs were a contributing factor.
This is the 22nd Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year as compared to 9 at the same time in 2024.
The investigation is ongoing.
