On April 8, 2025, the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section was notified by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office that the 54-year-old male operating an electric scooter involved in this collision had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
This is the 20th Traffic Fatality of 2025 as compared to 9 at the same time in 2024.
The investigation remains on-going.

On March 11, 2025, at about 7:15 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision involving a electric scooter, occurred in the area of Palama Street and Lakimela Lane in the Kalihi area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 30 year-old male motorist was attempting to reverse into a private driveway on Palama Street, when a 54-year-old male operating an electric scooter attempted to go around the rear of his vehicle and collided with the passenger side taillight.
As a result of the collision, the operator of the electric scooter lost control and was ejected onto the roadway
The 54-year-old electric scooter operator was then transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 30-year-old male motorist remained on scene and was not injured.
The electric scooter’s operator was not wearing a helmet at the time of this collision.
At this time, neither speed, drugs nor alcohol appear to be contributing factors in this collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
