***ORIGINAL***

On March 11, 2025, at about 7:15 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision involving a electric scooter, occurred in the area of Palama Street and Lakimela Lane in the Kalihi area.

It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 30 year-old male motorist was attempting to reverse into a private driveway on Palama Street, when a 54-year-old male operating an electric scooter attempted to go around the rear of his vehicle and collided with the passenger side taillight.

As a result of the collision, the operator of the electric scooter lost control and was ejected onto the roadway

The 54-year-old electric scooter operator was then transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition.

The 30-year-old male motorist remained on scene and was not injured.

At this time, neither speed, drugs nor alcohol appear to be contributing factors in this collision.

The investigation is ongoing.
