On January 22, 2022, at about 12:30 AM, a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian occurred on the H-2 Freeway just past the Ka Uka Boulevard overpass in the Waipio area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section that a 26-year-old Mililani male motorist was traveling northbound on the H-2 Freeway. A 38-year-old Wahiawa male pedestrian who was walking alongside the shoulder for unknown reasons darted into the northbound traffic lanes of the H-2 Freeway into the path of the 26-year-old Mililani male and was struck.
The 26-year-old Mililani male then lost control of his vehicle, which traveled into the grass median and down a grass embankment.
As a result of the collision, the 38-year-old Wahiawa male pedestrian was pronounced dead on the scene.
The 26-year-old Mililani male motorist was not injured as a result of the collision.
At this time, neither speed, drugs, nor alcohol appear to be contributing factors.
This is the 2nd Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 4 at this same time in 2021.
The investigation is ongoing.
