On June 05, 2026, at about 3:30 P.M., a fatal motor vehicle collision occurred on Moanalua Road in the Kalihi area.

It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 22-year-old male motorist with his 22-year-old female passenger, 25-year-old female passenger, 22-year-old male passenger, and 20-year-old male passenger were traveling eastbound on Moanalua Road at a high rate of speed, when it sideswiped a 65-year-old male motorist and his 52-year-old male passenger. The 22-year-old male motorist lost control and rear ended a 33-year-old male motorist, causing the 33-year-old male motorist to rear end a 65-year-old male motorist.

As a result of the collision, the 22-year-old male passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.  

The 22-year-old male passenger was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.

The 22-year-old male motorist was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. The 22-year-old female passenger, along with the 20-year-old male passenger were transported to an area hospital in serious condition. The 25-year-old female passenger was transported to an area hospital in good condition.

The 65-year-old male motorist and his 52-year-old male passenger remained at the scene and were not injured as a result of the collision. 

The 33-year-old male motorist was transported to an area hospital in good condition.

The 65-year-old male motorist remained at the scene and was not injured as a result of the collision.

At this time, speed and alcohol appear to be contributing factors of the collision. It is unknown if drugs are a contributing factor.

This is the 18th traffic fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 31 at the same time in 2025.

The investigation is ongoing.
