On May 25, 2026 at about 11:55 P.M., a fatal motor vehicle collision occurred on Farrington Highway in the Kapolei area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 28-year-old male motorist was traveling eastbound on Farrington Highway, at a high rate of speed, when it rear ended a 60-year-old male motorist. The 28-year-old male motorist lost control and collided with the center concrete barrier causing it to travel airborne over the barrier into the westbound lanes of Farrington Highway where it rolled over multiple times.
As a result of the collision, the 28-year-old male motorist was ejected onto the roadway and subsequently pronounced dead at the scene.
The 28-year-old male motorist was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
The 60-year-old male motorist remained at the scene and was not injured as a result of the collision.
At this time, speed appears to be a contributing factor of the collision. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol are a contributing factor.
This is the 16th traffic fatality on Oahu this year compared to 30 at the same time in 2025.
The investigation is ongoing.
