On 3-23-21, at about 7:10 p.m., a fatal motor vehicle collision occurred in the Waimea Bay area.

An unidentified male, possibly in his 40’s was operating his Vespa scooter on Kamehameha Highway in the north direction past Waimea Valley Road, and for unknown reasons, he veered onto the right and collided into a rocky embankment.

The male sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

At this time, it is unknown if speed, alcohol or drugs were factors in this collision.

This is the 15th traffic fatality for this year compared to 10 fatalities for 2020.
