On April 22, 2026, at about 0040 hours, a serious motor vehicle collision occurred in the Kaneohe area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 17-year-old male motorist with his two 20-year-old adult female passengers and 19-year-old adult male passenger, was traveling northbound on Likelike Highway, after the Wilson Tunnel, when he lost control of his vehicle and struck the guardrail in the right shoulder.
As a result of the collision, his 20-year-old adult female rear passenger was ejected onto the roadway and subsequently transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in serious condition. It is unknown if she was wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision.
The 20-year-old adult female front seat passenger was also transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in serious condition.
On April 26, 2026, at about 0540 hours, the Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section was informed by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office that the 20-year-old adult female rear passenger involved in this collision had succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
The 17-year-old male motorist and the 19-year-old adult male passenger remained at the scene and were injured as a result of this collision.
At this time, speed, drugs, or alcohol do not appear to be a contributing factor.
This is the 14th traffic fatality on Oahu this year compared to 25 at the same time in 2025.
The investigation is ongoing.
