On March 2, 2022, at about 10:00 PM, a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian occurred on Nimitz Highway prior to Camp Catlin Road in the Salt Lake area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section that a 65-year-old Aiea male motorist was traveling westbound on Nimitz Highway when he collided with a 50-year-old male pedestrian who was standing in the roadway. The 50-year-old male pedestrian was outside a marked crosswalk and was attired in dark-colored clothing.
As a result of the collision, the 50-year-old male pedestrian was taken to an area hospital in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The 65-year-old Aiea male motorist was not injured as a result of the collision.
At this time, neither speed, drugs, nor alcohol appear to be contributing factors.
This is the 14th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 9 at this same time in 2021.
The investigation is ongoing.
