On April 9, 2026, at about 11:35 P.M., a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian occurred in the Makiki area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that an unknown vehicle was traveling northbound on Kewalo Street near Wilder Avenue when it stuck a 30-year-old male pedestrian who was crossing the roadway outside of a marked crosswalk. The unknown vehicle continued traveling northbound on Kewalo Street without stopping to render aid or provide information.
As a result of the collision, the 30-year-old male pedestrian was transported by Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The vehicle remains unknown at this time.
At this time, it is unknown if speed, drugs, or alcohol are a contributing factor.
This is the 13th traffic fatality on Oahu this year compared to 21 at the same time in 2025.
