On Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at about 12:38 p.m., a Major Motor Vehicle Collision occurred in the Waipahu area, involving two vehicles.
A Toyota sedan operated by 74 year old female, exited the driveway entrance of the Servco Auto Leeward. Upon exiting onto Farrington Highway eastbound, the Toyota sedan was rear-ended by a Lexus SUV. The impact caused the Lexus SUV to veer onto the grassy median where it overturned and came to final rest upon the westbound lanes of Farrington Highway.
The operator of the Toyota sedan remained at the scene and sustained minor injuries. She refused medical treatment.
The 31 year old male operator of the Lexus SUV sustained injuries to his head and shoulder. He was transported to an area hospital in “Serious” condition. The 63 year old female passenger of the SUV sustained injuries to her head. She was taken to an area hospital in “Critical” condition where she succumbed to her injuries and died. It appears that both the driver and passenger seatbelts were not worn.
At this time, speed, drugs, and alcohol did not appear to be contributing factors.
This is the 13th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 9 at this same time last year.
