On March 15, 2026, at about 4:18 A.M., a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a single vehicle occurred in the Makiki area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 63-year-old male motorist was traveling westbound on the H-1 Freeway, when it struck the center concrete median, lost control, and collided into the wall of the Vineyard off-ramp.
As a result of the collision, the 63-year-old male motorist was transported to an area hospital in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The 63-year-old male motorist was wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision.
At this time, speed does not appear to a contributing factor in this collision. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol are a factor.
This is the 11th traffic fatality on Oahu this year compared to 18 at the same time in 2025.
The investigation is ongoing.
